A Big Law Partner Fends Off Murder Charges in a Small Town

Winston & Strawn’s Gerry Shargel may not be a household name exactly, but he’s been in the news a bunch.

Particularly in upstate New York newspapers: For the last month, Shargel has been in trial representing a dentist in Kingston, New York on murder charges. Last week, the jury came back with an acquittal.

According to news reports about the case, prosecutors accused Gilberto Nunez of killing his secret lover’s husband. Shargel told the jury that prosecutors had no idea what happened, but that his client certainly didn’t kill anyone.
