ABA Comes Out Swinging for Merrick Garland

The American Bar Association threw its weight behind Judge Merrick Garland’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to hold hearings, bestowing its strongest endorsement — a “well-qualified” rating.

In a 27-page report prepared on behalf of the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, LeClairRyan’s Karol Corbin Walker wrote that Garland “meets the highest standards of integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament.”

The standing committee consists of 15 lawyers from every circuit who conduct peer reviews for federal judges that require Senate confirmation.
