After State Declines to Weigh In, GMU Scalia Renaming Final

After loud opposition from some faculty members, George Mason University’s decision to rename its law school after the late Justice Antonin Scalia was finalized on Tuesday, clearing a last hurdle with state authorities in Virginia.

Although some had anticipated a fight on the merits, 12 members of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia voted unanimously to adopt a resolution stating the group didn’t have the authority to approve or disapprove the name change.
