Debevoise Partner Elected President of NYC Bar

The New York City Bar Association announced Wednesday that Debevoise & Plimpton partner John Kiernan was elected as its president.

Kiernan, who co-chairs Debevoise’s litigation department, will serve as the group’s president for the next two years. He succeeds Debra Raskin, a labor and employment attorney at a small firm in the city.

Founded in 1870, the association has 24,000 members, according to its website. Kiernan said 4,700 members sit on 160 different committees tasked with issuing proposals for reform on a wide variety of issues.
