EU Privacy Regulators Set Moratorium on Challenges to Data Transfer Pact

Privacy officials from European Union countries today said they would not challenge for at least a year the adequacy of a new EU-U.S. data transfer pact.

Thousands of U.S. and EU companies hoping to rely on the new EU-U.S. Privacy Shield arrangement may now move forward with more confidence to rely on the program to ease transfers of data to the U.S. The Privacy Shield is a replacement for the invalidated U.S.-EU Safe Harbor framework, which had been relied on by over 4,400 U.S. companies and tens of thousands of companies in the Europe.
