Hogan Lovells Strikes Alliance in Shanghai

In another sign that the Chinese legal market continues to open up to western law firms, albeit incrementally, Hogan Lovells on Thursday announced a strategic alliance to operate with Fujian Fidelity Law Firm in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.

It is only the third law firm to form a coveted strategic alliance with a Chinese firm, which will allow its lawyers to practice law in China, according to the announcement.

Under current regulations, foreign law firms cannot represent clients in court or before certain government authorities and Chinese lawyers who work for foreign legal firms must temporarily surrender their Chinese law licenses. The Chinese government, and ...
