Herbert Smith Freehills is expanding its alternative legal services’ business, opening a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa where five lawyers and 20 legal analysts will conduct document review and perform due diligence-related tasks for clients.
It is the fourth office that the firm has opened since 2011 that is devoted to providing clients with so-called alternative legal services, a unit that is designed to help clients reduce their legal bills without sacrificing quality.
“It’s offshore, but it’s risk-wrapped by Herbert Smith Freehills’ [reputation],” said Libby Jackson, who heads up the alternative legal services function at HSF.
