LeClairRyan to Plunk Down $20M in Settlement

The young, but fast-growing LeClairRyan has agreed to pay $20.375 million to settle unspecified claims related to legal advice it gave to a bankrupt medical lab company — where a firm co-founder was working as an executive.

The exact nature of the claims against LeClairRyan were not specified in the proposed settlement agreement, which was filed in U.S. bankruptcy court in Richmond on Sept. 1 but relate to its representation of Health Diagnostics Laboratory — a blood testing company that failed in the wake of a federal civil investigation into whether it paid kickbacks to doctors who recommended its tests.
