  • Seeing what law firms look like is similar to seeing what Pluto looks like, and the “stunning” images we’re getting of that today. “We didn’t really know what Pluto looked like until we got data about that… and better data gives us better pictures. So as we continue to collect richer data from this whole ecosystem of legal spend, we will get better pictures. We don’t know exactly what they’re going to look like yet. They’re going to be stunning in their own way, but we’ll continue to collect that data and make a better picture, so that we can make better decisions and achieve the best outcomes,” said AIG’s SVP, Cliff Dutton at the Big Law Business Summit earlier this month. Dutton spoke on “The New Change Agents” panel moderated by Amar D. Sarwal, Vice President and Chief Legal Strategist, Association of Corporate Counsel. Dutton’s fellow panelists included Robert Harchut, Vice President & Associate General Counsel, GlaxoSmithKline and Adam Storch, Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer — Legal and Public Affairs, Marsh & McLennan Companies. Themes of the panel included the impact of data on law department decision making and the need for “law firms to have robust data security safeguards.”
