LGBT Rights Champion Olson Supports Jeff Sessions

Former Solicitor General Theodore B. Olson endorsed Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for the position of attorney general, in a letter released today by Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-Iowa) office.

Olson, who is a self-described LGBT rights advocate — says he has “no reservations” about Sessions’s ability “to protect the civil rights of these and all of our citizens.”

Sessions, whose Senate confirmation hearing is currently underway, has faced scrutiny about his civil rights record.

Allegations that Sessions made racist statements doomed his bid to become a federal judge following President Ronald Reagan’s nomination of him in 1986.
