Report Shows a Rise in Federal Caseload, Driven by Civil Filings

Civil filings in U.S. district courts rose by four percent in the last year, according to a recently released report on the federal courts’ caseload.

The Administrative Office’s report, titled, “2014 Judicial Business of the United States Courts,” was released in early March and covers the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2014. It found a one percent rise in total federal district court filings, roughly on par with the trend established in 2013, when civil case filings climbed two percent.
