SEC Nominee Clayton Earned $7.6M at New York Law Firm

SEC chairman nominee Jay Clayton made $7.6 million as a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell in the past year, according to recently released ethics paperwork.

Clayton, whom President Donald Trump tapped to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission in January, has handled mergers and acquisitions at the New York law firm since 2001. His clients include Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Barclays PLC and other large companies.

The lawyer has said he will not handle any matter involving Sullivan & Cromwell or a former client for a year if he’s confirmed, unless he receives a waiver, according to an agreement published by the Office of Government Ethics.
