Serial’s Adnan Syed Now Has Hogan Lovells’ Firepower

After a Maryland judge granted him a new trial last week, Adnan Syed, subject of the popular “Serial” podcast, has added some Big Law firepower to his defense team.

Lawyers from Hogan Lovells, led by T. Clark Weymouth, head of the firm’s pro bono practice, and Steve Barley, managing partner of the firm’s Baltimore office, have agreed to work with Baltimore defense attorney C. Justin Brown on Syed’s case, according to a statement released by the firm on Wednesday.

After an initial mistrial, Syed was convicted in 2000 of murdering Hae Min Lee, his girlfriend and fellow student at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore. The ...
