Wake Up Call: House Bill a ‘Death Sentence’ for Plaintiffs’ Firms

• President Donald Trump has pro-business groups optimistic that Congress will finally pass legislation that would discourage class actions and generally make it harder to sue businesses. A Columbia Law professor said one of a series bills that the House is considering could be a “death sentence” for large plaintiffs’ firms. However, passage of such a bill by the Senate is far from certain. ( Bloomberg Businessweek )

• Leaders of more than 150 U.S. law firms urged the Office of Management and Budget to maintain funding for the Legal Services Corp. In their letter to the office Thursday, they said the LSC enables important pro bono activity. ( Am Law Daily )
